Wings of Support is a private initiative by KLM and Martinair staff. We are making an effort to provide shelter
and education to children in the countries these companies fly to. Because of the nature of their work, the airline
staff regularly stay in many countries, therefore a project can be visited to a maximum extent, both by Wings of
Support contributors and by interested supporters/sponsors. Currently, Wings of Support is also supported by
various companies other than KLM and Martinair, as well as private individuals.

Typhoon Nesat rages over Baseco - Wednesday 19 October 2011
|
|
Just after Typhoon Nesat raged over Manila, I (Lex de Vries, project coordinator)visited the WW Hope Baseco organisation. The Baseco slum, where people are living off fishery or sorting refuse, is directly on the coast so that the damage is enormous. Many houses are ruined, the refuse is lying all over, boats are destroyed and some fishermen are still missing. WW Hope Baseco is working together with five other NGO's to give emergency relief. They are each focussing on something else zich (food, construction, medical aid, ...) and are thus trying to cover the most basic needs as well as possible. JR, our contact person, is very busy organising structured assistance, that will remain effective even after meeting the basic needs. Wings of Support is doing its bit by reacting as quickly as possible, there is financial support and our volunteers are taking clothes along on their flight, so that the people in this area will have some clothes on their backs.
