What we do
Financial support for projects
In many cases, a Wings of Support project is an action at a local destination organisation, such as a school, nursery or medical post. New projects can be started at organisations unknown to Wings of Support, as well as at organisations where Wings of Support has previously implemented and completed a project.
Wings of Support adheres to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. We mainly support projects with a focus on education, shelter and medical assistance. In doing so, we contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 3 (good health and well-being), 4 (quality education) and 6 (fair work and economic growth), the global Sustainable Development Goals.
Our approach to project implementation
1. Usually a project is implemented by two project coordinators. They start by collecting the necessary data. This is done both at the organisation on site during a route stop, and via email contact.
2. Once all the relevant data is gathered, the project is presented for a vote among a rotating group of project coordinators. This voting process helps to clarify any ambiguities and address questions that arise, ensuring a thorough justification for financial support. Moreover, involving a diverse group of coordinators—who are not personally connected to the project—ensures an objective assessment, fostering transparency and fairness in our decision-making process.
3. If the vote is successful, the project is officially adopted and will be implemented by Wings of Support. To learn more about our ongoing initiatives, visit our Projects page.
Project in the spotlight
One of our initiatives is located in Kirby Place, a community in the slums of Delhi, India. In this video, project coordinators Robin de Geus and Patrick van der Heijden visit the site to share insights on how we implement our projects and the positive impact they have on the community.

Goodies on demand
At Wings of Support, we refer to donated goods as “goodies.” Each of our projects specifies the items they can utilise most effectively. Our cabin and cockpit crew personally deliver these requested donations directly to active projects. This process is conducted on a small scale, focusing on essential items such as baby supplies, children’s clothing, school and craft materials, sports equipment, and incontinence products. While we appreciate these contributions, our primary focus remains on providing financial support, with a preference for local purchases that stimulate the local economy.
I am flight or cabin crew, what can I do?
To ensure proper aircraft loading and maintain our Safety & Security rating, clear guidelines regarding luggage use are in place for the crew. Our enthusiastic volunteers at goodies@wingsofsupport.org can provide you with an overview of which projects need specific donations and how you can contribute while adhering to these guidelines.
If you are flying staff and wish to support our goodies initiative, please sign up as a volunteer first.
Why doesn’t Wings of Support provide transport?
Wings of Support is an independent foundation and is not part of the KLM Group. We do not have the facilities to transport large goods (cargo) or items intended for non-active Wings of Support projects. Therefore, we are unable to assist with transportation options for goods or cargo to your own projects or partnerships abroad.
For transport needs, such as urgent medical relief supplies, we recommend contacting the Aviation Without Borders Foundation. More information can be found at www.luchtvaartzondergrenzen.nl
